Wisdom for a Career
by: braveonecati

One strange thought I got from the talk of Prof. Espie in our Career Development Seminar last Saturday was “to always incorporate a bunch of laughter and positivity in our lives…and everything follows.”
Isn’t it strange? For a person who meets problems all the time, this thought is really impossible, because if smiling for him is difficult, how much more with laughing? I don’t think so. When students like me enter the gates of the university, all stressful stuff are present – from the assignments, exercises, projects, and examinations to depressing friends, classmates, and professors, all are similar when it comes to student’s lives. Four or more years of roller coaster ride. Other students always frown when they hear the word quiz. Some of them choose to stay home to avoid oral recitations. Many prefer to stop. And worst among all excuses is that a number of female students end up being a mother at their young age. A student’s life is indeed a tough route to take. However, these problems are not even problems when it comes to the outside world. Most students don’t understand how the real world differs from their cultural atmosphere at school and sad to say, end up being shocked with the changes. Point here is that life after college is far way difficult than the common life inside school. And knowing this fact should aid students get ready for it.
The Personality Enhancement Seminar is a great way to help my fellow students and I to prepare before we continue to live our own chosen fields. Everything that Ma’am Espie had taught us was of great help and contributed much to our knowledge about handling life and career at the same time. Many of her stories were told, and a lot of lessons should be treasured. Excel in your strongest skill but not to forget others and offer a helping hand. Like what was told in the famous poem of Max Ehrmann – Desiderata, “avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit”. And the most important application of knowledge I learned from her was to always incorporate a bunch of laughter and positivity in my life. With this, blessings will surely come pouring out like the rain and there goes wisdom at the beginning of a new journey – A wisdom for a career.
